    Ferrous & Non Ferrous Metals

These are metals which contain iron. They may have small amounts of other metals or other elements added to give the required properties. These are metals which do not contain any iron. They are not magnetic and are usually more resistant to corrosion than ferrous metals. All ferrous metals are magnetic and give little resistance to corrosion.

    Atmosphere & Vacuum

Vacuum Hardening is an improvement over Conventional Hardening in that the components’ surfaces are protected from possible negative effects of exposure to a gaseous atmosphere. Vacuum treated material is quenched in gas, depending on the specification requirements.

    Atmosphere & Vacuum Tempering

Vacuum Tempering is almost always required after hardening (both in an atmosphere furnace as well as in vacuum), to reduce the hardness (and brittleness) of the treated material to a desirable level.

    Stress Relieving

Heating a steel object to a suitable temperature, holding it long enough to reduce residual stresses, and then cooling it slowly enough to minimize the development of new residual stresses.

    Annealing

Annealing is used to induce ductility, soften material, relieve internal stresses, refine the structure by making it homogeneous, and improve cold working properties.

    Solutioning

A treatment in which an alloy is heated to a suitable temperature and held at this temperature for a sufficient length of time to allow a desired constituent to enter into solid solution, followed by rapid cooling to hold the constituent in solution. The material is then in a supersaturated, unstable state, and may subsequently exhibit Age Hardening.

    Aging

A change in the properties of certain steels, and structural alloys, that offers at ambient or moderately elevated temperature after hot working or a heat treatment or after a cold-working operation.

    Vacuum Brazing

NEHTS is a certified vacuum brazing facility. Approved brazing materials include, but are not limited to, the following: Gold, Nickel and Copper

Deep Freeze & Thermal Cycle to -125˚ F

Thermal Cycling is the process of cycling through two temperature extremes, typically at relatively high rates of change. It is an environmental stress test used in evaluating product reliability as well as in manufacturing to catch early-term, latent defects by inducing failure through thermal fatigue.
